Sustabeena: Making Sustainability Easier Than Ever

It takes you a lot of time and awareness to decide to become a more sustainable person, whether through one aspect or several. How would you feel if you couldn’t find a single resource that helps you with that? As a matter of fact there isn’t… Or there wasn’t until Sustabeena came along!

Sustabeena: everything you need in one place

Founded in 2020 by three powerful women working collectively on their masters’ degrees in sustainable development in the American University in Cairo, Sustabeena came to be the answer to one question: why aren’t there any sources for sustainable companies and service providers that can help me embrace my lifestyle?

Having searched for an answer to this and failed to find one, that’s when the idea of Sustabeena came into the works.

Behind Sustabeena

Linguistically, Sustabeena is made up of two syllables: Susta and Beena.

Susta is a shortcut of sustainable, and Beena is an Arabic word, “بينا” that roughly translates to together.

So Sustabeena basically means sustainable together, and that’s one of the main goals for Sustabeena: to help communities become sustainable together, hand-in-hand.

When it comes to design, we carefully and creatively crafted our logo to represent everything we stand for.

In terms of colours, we choose to go with blue to represent the economic aspect, red to represent the social aspect, and green to represent the environmental aspect.

The tree in our logo represents a new sustainable age, the red circle represents unity, and the S represents sustainable development and Sustabeena all-in-all.

All three elements are connected to symbolically demonstrate how each aspect is connected to the other and, as a result, how they all affect each other.

Where is Sustabeena heading?

Sustabeena is actually the first multidimensional hub in Egypt that aims to serve sustainability in all three dimensions: social, environmental, and economic.

As of now, Sustabeena is a platform, a hub, and a directory for sustainable companies, startups, projects and influencers. Sustabeena aims to be the one-stop shop for anyone looking to learn or become more sustainable by providing valuable resources, sharing news, and directing people towards the businesses that can help them with their sustainability quest.
